Yeah, it’s been a while since the last time I’ve defiled anyone’s email box via Substack, but I got a note from my doctor. For those who haven’t checked in a while, the Annals of St. Remedius Medical College is full of all sorts of new installments, and expect a few serious humdingers in the next few days. In addition, the St. Remedius Watch Parties are still going on Twitch every Saturday at 2:00 pm Central Time: next Saturday’s feature is “Island of Terror,” and we’ve only gotten started on the possibilities for the rest of the year.
Anyway, that’s not the only reason for sending this off: it’s more to do with the US Post Office. The Postcard Liberation Front has been running for two months now, but I got word today that US Post Office rates go up as of this Sunday, with postcard stamps going for a truly ridiculous 65 cents US along with everything else. While the current postcard giveaway has been impressive on its own, I have 21 61-cent postcard stamps that need to get used up, and fast. Hence, the interim alert.
The rules are easy: I have approximately 200 postcards, mostly vintage from the 1980s and 1990s, that were collecting among my papers for decades, only to be consolidated this last winter. Now, I could have left them in their box until they went out in my estate sale, but I’m at the age where I’d rather have them go out to good homes, especially these days, when the only things we get via standard mail any more are bills. All I need are addresses: the address doesn’t need to be YOUR address if you’re sensitive about privacy, but I need somewhere to send your card. Otherwise, there’s no obligation, no cost, and absolutely no chance in Hell that your information will go anywhere other than addressing your card. If you want to send a postcard in return, they’re gratefully received. If you have several friends and/or cohorts whom you want to receive cards, send their addresses as well. If you want a specific message, feel free to ask. Even if you think I have your address already, send it anyway: all of the received addresses are going to be deleted anyway once I’m out of cards. Oh, and feel free to spread word to anyone nostalgic for the days before email and texting: as pointed out before, there’s no obligation. For details, here are the complete rules.
Is there a catch? There’s one catch. Those 21 cards with current postage go out first, so ask for your card by midnight Central Time on Friday, July 10, 2026, so I can get them out with the Friday mail. If you can’t get word in by then, don’t worry: I’ll do my utmost to get late requests in by the next week. And feel free to spread word on St. Remedius in general: as I mentioned before, there’s some serious weirdness coming your way over the next few days and weeks.
Cordially,
Paul.
